There’s no doubt about it, it’s been a tough year for so many of us. The arts and entertainment industry has been hit particularly hard as so much of music and film is built around social events and live performances. Artists have had to reinvent how they do things or just lock themselves away in their studio to craft things which will hopefully be appreciated in better days. That’s what I’ve been doing in my own way.
I like to celebrate some of the people who have shaped our cultural landscape and last year I conceived an idea for a series of mini prints and cards with a little twist. With a play on the icon’s name or catch phrase to create a high-end hand crafted greeting card or a very affordable mini print - depending on what way you want to go.
This series so far features icons including; Paul Weller, Stormzy, Lemmy, Robert DeNiro, Lady Gaga and Lionel Messi (currently in production).
Each card is a two colour screen print hand printed by me on 298gsm Loop Husk recycled paper.
Crafted in a retro-chic style, each one comes with a recycled envelope and is protected by a totally biodegradable clear compostable sealer packet.
The original art is usually created in pen, brush and ink then developed in photoshop sometimes with a real spray-paint element added. It’s an organic and hands on process which lends itself well to the classic retro style. Keep an eye on the socials for little videos of the process.
